Tree of Opals Breastmilk Charm Review

I first heard about breast milk jewellery last year and I have been intrigued ever since. My friend Nikki who I met through our local breastfeeding peer support group started her own jewellery making business Tree of Opals in 2015 making pieces from breast milk, umbilical cords, cremation ash and other memento's. When Nikki asked if I would like to review one of her breast milk pieces I jumped at the chance. I was planning on getting something to commemorate a year of breastfeeding Ailsa and the timing couldn't have been better.

After browsing the website over quite a few days I finally decided to go with the Breastmilk Pearl, I thought it would be the perfect piece to add onto my favourite necklaces and also could be worn on its own chain if desired (A silver link chain can be added to your order). I love it on my rose gold locket that I received as a birthday gift from Ailsa last year. Nikki also makes some gorgeous charms too which work perfectly with Pandora bracelets and also has many other styles to choose from.

Ordering from the website was super easy once I chose my piece, I also decided to add white gold flakes to my Breastmilk Pearl to give it a little extra sparkle but they can be made with precious gems like Ruby and Sapphire and or a birth stone of your choosing. You can see a list of everything Tree Of Opals can add here. The checkout process is really easy and payment can be made by Direct Bank Transfer or Paypal. Once I had placed my order I received an email update to say that my order was on hold until my milk had been received, so I set about expressing some milk for my order. Only around an ounce of milk is required and I found the easiest way was to hand express straight into a milk storage bag. There are full instructions on the website as to how you need to send your milk and they are so straight forward and easy to follow. I then popped my milk all wrapped up into an envelope and posted it to Tree Of Opals. Once it had been received I was emailed an update to confirm. I then received an email to let me know when my order was completed. I love this constant communication so you know exactly what is being done with your order and so you know your milk has been delivered and not lost in the mail somewhere.

My order once completed was sent in a small sturdy box by signed for delivery and very well packaged. Upon opening the box the presentation was just lovely and my Breastmilk Pearl was inside a little cotton pouch with some Lavender inside the box too, As a little extra there was a wish bracelet, a perfect accompanying item which I can't wait to try out too, These little extra touches just add something special to your order and in a way made me feel appreciated as a customer.

The piece itself has been wonderfully crafted and just looks beautiful. I cannot fault the quality at all, it is lovely and delicate and just the perfect size to be worn with other pendants or on it's own. The white gold flakes really come through and add that special extra something to the pearl. I absolutely adore it and it is something I will treasure as a little reminder of the special time I have had with Ailsa and our breastfeeding journey. I will definitely have one made with milk for any future children we may have. Although some people may find the idea of Jewellery made from breast milk to be quite a strange idea I absolutely love it and if you didn't want to tell anyone that's what it was made from you wouldn't have to as you can't tell, but I will certainly be telling everyone quite proudly that the pendant was made from my milk to celebrate a year and more of breastfeeding and the (mostly) wonderful time we have had.

Tree of Opals can be found on FacebookInstagramTwitter and of course on their Website.
