A Letter to Ailsa on Her First Birthday

Ailsa,

You are now a whole year old. How did that happen? This past year has gone far too quickly for my liking. No longer are you the squishy little thing that was oh so tiny. You are turning from a baby to a little girl in front of us and Daddy and I are loving watching you grow and develop. You amaze us everyday with your new skills and your general cuteness. You have such a warm and loving personality and I hope that never changes. You are such a joy and make us smile and laugh everyday. We could stare at you all day long and as soon as you smile you just make everything right in the world, no matter how much of a rubbish day we are having.

You now have 4 teeth, 2 top and 2 bottom and you look so cute, your face is changing shape now and you look so much more like a child than a baby. You are almost walking and will quite happily stroll along with your push along walker toy, normally with a massive smile on your face. You can do so many more signs now and can also say quite a number of words. We know you can understand us a lot more too. You are showing us just how intelligent you are and we know that you are going to be so very clever.

Every morning now when you wake up you sit up and the first thing you say is Hiya. It is your favourite word. You say it all the time. You also love to say Bath so you can get a bath. You love having a bath and it is a nightmare trying to get you out so we can get you ready for bed. Bath time is your special time with Daddy when he is home. I like to try and give you guys some good quality one to one time since he works so much and has been travelling a lot recently. We miss him when he is gone and the other morning you were holding my phone saying " Dada Hiya, Dada Hiya" I took that as you saying you wanted to speak with him.

Ailsa, I look at you everyday and know how lucky I am to have such a wonderful little girl. You are my world and I love you so much. I never truly knew what unconditional love was until you were placed on my chest the night you were born- I looked and you and said "Hi Baby" and that was it, I was completely overcome with love. Each day with every new thing you do we are overcome again with how much love we have in our hearts for you. You are so special and Daddy and I will be reminding you of that whenever we can.

Happy Birthday my gorgeous girl. I love you more than you will ever know.
