With Valentine's day coming up I have been thinking about ways James and I can have a date without the worry of childcare. With us living so far away from family and the friend I would trust to look after Ailsa having just had a baby we have no childcare options for us to have some time alone. This has given me the opportunity to come up with some ideas we can either do as a family or for us to do after Ailsa has gone to bed.
1. Living room picnic
This is something that could be quite fun and could be done with your kiddies around too. Grab a big blanket and pop it on the floor, maybe make up some yummy sandwiches or maybe some quiche and other snacky foods, I like to pick up a nice bottle of fancy juice like Shloer or Belvoir to enjoy.
2. Movie with a bottle of bubbly
One thing we really like to do is watch movies or even just our favourite TV shows. Before Ailsa came along we would often share a bottle of wine and after our wedding we would often crack open a bottle of bubbly as we had some left over. It's been a long time since we have had some bubbly so after Ailsa has gone to bed we may just crack open a bottle of something and watch a movie.
3. Cook a fancy meal
James and I both enjoy cooking and our usual valentines day dinners would be a lovely home cooked 3 course dinner. With Ailsa around now cooking can be a little more challenging for us on our own so it could be that whilst one of us does bath time the other can be whipping up a beautiful dinner. We would normally have something we wouldn't normally eat like Duck and potato gratin.
4. order a takeaway from a nicer restaurant
We don't often order takeaways as we are trying to save money but we do have some lovely restaurants around us that offer the option. So we may just sit back relax and let someone else cook a meal for us without having to leave the house. bliss.
Those are just some ideas that James and I use for at home dates. Is there anything you like to do? Leave a comment below.
