This past week we started introducing food to Ailsa. We decided to go with the Baby led weaning route rather than Purée. I felt that this approach would work for us the best and allow Ailsa to set the pace on how much she was eating and the rate at which she ate, from my research this approach works quite well with breastfed babies as they have complete control of their intake.
At the moment I am introducing one or 2 types of food at a time till she gets the hang of things. The first food we introduced to Ailsa properly was Avocado. Nice and soft and not an overpowering flavour (Although she did try to steal some of my cheese and cracker the day before so got a taste of that). She really enjoyed playing with the food and squishing it between her hands and sucking it off her fingers. She didn't have all that was given to her which we expected but we let her take it at her own pace.

We also introduced some Banana the following day which she wasn't so keen on. She was really unsure of it. I have been told it can take up to 11 tries before you can say if you like something or not so I will keep putting it out for her till we know for definite if she likes it or not. We also tried some mashed Sweet Potato on a preloaded spoon which she looked like she was enjoying and also some Broccoli and Cauliflower. She hasn't eaten too much which we knew for the first week. In the coming weeks we will keep trying her with new things and letting her have bits from our plates. I think it will be a slow process to get up to 3 meals a day but she has a lot of breast milk so I know she is still getting a lot from me so I'm not too worried.
What kind of foods did your little ones enjoy? Let me know in the comments below.Labels: 6 months, baby, baby led weaning, breast milk, breastfeeding, food, solids, weaning
