With British summer being what it is, we have had plenty of rainy days. As Dr Lynch takes the car to work most days Ailsa and I will normally go for a walk into town- which isn't very far- and will have a wander round the shops or the park but on day's that it's raining quite heavily we are stuck in the house. Trying to find activities to do with a small baby can be tough but here is few things you can do with a baby under 6 months.
Read Books
We have a selection of books even though Ailsa is only 5 months. Babies love the sound of your voice and looking at colourful pictures. I either sit with her on my lap to read or incorporate it into tummy time by lying on her playmat with her. I will read the story and then go through the book again to describe the pictures to her too. She loves the interaction although she tries to eat the books after we have read them.
Pop A Movie On
Now Ailsa is only small so we don't actually sit down and watch the movie but I like to have something on in the background and Ailsa loves music so I pop on a Disney DVD and sing along with the songs and try to engage with Ailsa in that way. I am also making the most of watching a variety of films before Ailsa gets to the age where she asks to watch Frozen every day.
Get on the floor and play
Now granted I do this every day but when we are not out and about exploring I especially make the effort to get down and play with Ailsa and her toys for a good length of time and really try to interact with her which she loves.
Sing and dance
One thing I have noticed with Ailsa is that she loves any kind of music, even when I am trying to feed her, if music comes on the TV she will stop feeding to turn and watch it. So I like to incorporate this into our rainy day activities. I will pop on the music channel and sing along and have a dance with Ailsa, great fun for her and a bit of exercise for me and I normally can get a bit of a giggle out of my usually silent laughing baby. She also loves "Row row row your boat" which we do several times a day.
